Founded by maya kawatake pinon, FRICTIONS is both a choreographic company and a laboratory for artistic research, centered on the body as a sensitive and political medium responsive to the frictions of contemporary existence.
The uniqueness of FRICTIONS lies in its commitment to creating a dialogue between Baroque gestures and historical dances with contemporary choreographic writing. Codified steps, ornamentation, and symbolic postures inherited from the seventeenth century are reinterpreted, transformed, and hybridized with the languages of the present. This friction between heritage and modernity becomes a fertile ground where history resonates with today’s concerns.
Through diverse formats : performances, installations, site-specific creations, the company explores social constraints, invisible norms, and the transformations of our living spaces. Each project becomes a performative experience, where choreographic gesture interacts with other disciplines (text, sound, early music, visual arts).
FRICTIONS thus seeks to bring forth new poetic and critical
paradigms, cultivating a sharp observation of reality while engaging the body as a tool of analysis, memory, resistance, and transformation.

FRICTIONS（フリクションズ）は、川竹麻耶によって設立された振付カンパニーであり、同時に芸術的リサーチ・ラボラトリーでもあります。身体を「感覚的かつ政治的な素材」として捉え、現代の生の摩擦（フリクション）に反応する創作を行っています。
FRICTIONSの独自性は、バロックの身振りや歴史的舞踊を、現代振付の言語と対話させることにあります。17世紀に由来する定型のステップ、装飾的な動き、象徴的な姿勢などが、現代の文脈の中で変形・再構築・融合されていきます。この「遺産と現代性の摩擦」が、歴史と現在の課題を共鳴させる創造的な場となるのです。
パフォーマンス、インスタレーション、サイトスペシフィックな作品など、さまざまな形式を通じて、社会的制約、目に見えない規範、私たちの生活空間の変容を探求します。各プロジェクトは、テキスト、音、古楽、ヴィジュアルアートなど他の表現領域と対話しながら展開する、実験的な身体経験の場です。
FRICTIONSは、身体を「観察」「記憶」「抵抗」「変容」のための道具として用い、現実を精緻に観察しながら、新たな詩的・批評的パラダイムを生み出すことを目指しています。

FRICTIONS, fondée par maya kawatake pinon, est à la fois une compagnie chorégraphique et un laboratoire de recherche artistique, centré sur le corps comme matière sensible et politique, réactif aux frictions de l’existence contemporaine.
La singularité de FRICTIONS réside dans sa volonté de faire dialoguer gestuelles baroques et danses historiques avec des écritures chorégraphiques contemporaines. Pas codifiés, ornementations, postures symboliques héritées du XVIIe siècle sont détournés, transformés et hybridés avec les langages du présent. Cette friction entre héritage et modernité devient un terrain fertile où l’histoire résonne avec nos enjeux actuels.
À travers des formats croisés : performances, installations, créations in situ - la compagnie explore les contraintes sociales, les normes invisibles, les transformations de nos espaces de vie. Chaque projet devient une expérience performative, où le geste chorégraphique dialogue avec d’autres disciplines (texte, son, musique ancienne, arts visuels).
FRICTIONS cherche ainsi à faire émerger de nouveaux paradigmes poétiques et critiques, en cultivant une observation fine du réel et en engageant le corps comme outil d’analyse, de mémoire, de résistance et de transformation.
